MLITSD-approved certification for one of Ontario's fastest-growing cities. On-site training available for groups along the Highway 400 corridor.
Barrie has become one of the hottest construction markets in Ontario. The Highway 400 growth corridor stretching from the south end of the city through to Innisfil and Bradford has fuelled an explosion of residential subdivision development that shows no signs of slowing. Thousands of new homes are going up every year — detached, semis, townhomes, and stacked units — each one requiring framing crews, roofers, siding installers, and other trades who spend their workday at height. On the waterfront, redevelopment projects are transforming Barrie's lakeside into a mixed-use destination with mid-rise residential, commercial space, and public amenities that demand certified workers at every stage of the build.
The expansion of GO Transit service to Barrie has accelerated the city's growth even further, drawing commuters and new residents northward from the GTA. That growth translates directly into construction activity — new schools, commercial plazas, medical facilities, and infrastructure upgrades that all require workers with valid Working at Heights certificates. Under Ontario Regulation 297/13, any worker on a construction project who may use a method of fall protection must hold an MLITSD-approved WAH certificate. There are no exceptions based on project size, building height, or how experienced the worker is.
Simcoe County and the Barrie area see regular Ministry of Labour inspections, particularly on residential subdivision sites where large numbers of trades are working simultaneously. Missing or expired WAH certificates are among the most commonly cited violations, and the fines can be significant — for both the individual worker and the constructor. With the pace of building activity in Barrie, keeping your crew's certifications current is not optional.

Yes. Ontario Regulation 297/13 applies to all construction projects in Ontario, including residential subdivisions. If a worker may use any method of fall protection — harness, guardrail system, travel restraint, or safety net — they must hold a valid MLITSD-approved Working at Heights certificate. This includes framers, roofers, siding installers, and any other trade working above grade.
Your Working at Heights certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. To renew, you can take the shorter 3.5-hour refresher course before the certificate expires. If it has already expired, you will need to complete the full 6.5-hour program again.
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Wear closed-toe footwear — steel-toe boots are ideal but not mandatory — and clothing that allows you to move comfortably. The course includes a practical component where you will be fitted with a harness and inspect fall protection equipment. We supply all training gear.
