Toronto Training

MLITSD-APPROVED SAFETY TRAINING FOR TORONTO CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

Toronto's skyline is in constant motion. From the cluster of supertall condo towers reshaping the downtown core to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT corridor stretching across Midtown, construction crews are working at height on virtually every major street. The Port Lands revitalization is transforming a vast stretch of the eastern waterfront into a mixed-use neighbourhood, while commercial office towers continue to rise along University Avenue, Bay Street, and the King West corridor. For every one of these projects, Ontario law requires workers to hold a valid Working at Heights certificate before they set foot on a scaffold, suspended platform, or rooftop.

4 Your Safety Solutions delivers MLITSD-approved Working at Heights training that meets the requirements of Ontario Regulation 297/13. Our courses run weekly in the Toronto area, and we offer on-site training directly at your job site — from high-rise formwork crews in North York to renovation contractors in the East End. Whether you are framing condos near the Gardiner, installing curtain wall on a Yonge Street tower, or doing roof repairs in Scarborough, we will get you certified quickly so you can stay on the job.

With thousands of active building permits at any given time, Toronto has one of the highest concentrations of construction activity in North America. The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development conducts regular site inspections across the city, and missing or expired WAH certificates are among the most common violations cited. A single ticket can cost you or your employer thousands of dollars — and repeated non-compliance can shut a project down entirely.

Got Questions?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long is a Working at Heights certificate valid in Ontario?

+

Your WAH certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. After 3 years, you must take either the refresher course (if renewing within the valid window) or the full certification course again. There is no grace period — once it expires, you cannot legally work at heights on a construction project.

Is Working at Heights training mandatory in Toronto?

+

Yes. Under Ontario Regulation 297/13, any worker on a construction project who may use a method of fall protection must complete an MLITSD-approved Working at Heights training program. This applies to every construction site in Toronto, regardless of the project size.

Can you train my crew at our job site in Toronto?

+

Absolutely. We provide on-site training for groups of 5 or more workers at no additional travel cost anywhere in Toronto and the GTA. We bring all necessary equipment and materials. Just call us at 647-830-5557 to book a date.

What do I need to bring to the course?

+

Bring a valid piece of government-issued photo ID. Wear closed-toe footwear and clothing suitable for a practical training component. We supply all harnesses, lanyards, and training equipment. No prior experience is required for the full certification course.

On the Ground

WORKING AT HEIGHTS IN TORONTO: A CONTRACTOR'S GUIDE

Toronto's construction landscape covers more than just the obvious downtown towers. The Ontario Line subway is forcing major below- and above-grade work along the central spine of the city, and the Yonge North subway extension will bring years of station construction north of Steeles. Above ground, residential intensification continues along the Avenues — Bloor West, Danforth, St. Clair, and Eglinton — with mid-rise frame and brick work that puts crews on scaffolds every day. The Eaton Centre and Union Station precincts have ongoing retail and concourse renovations that often require suspended platform work during overnight shifts.

The MLITSD's Toronto regional office is one of the most active in the province, and inspectors regularly drop in on residential infill sites in the East End, condo towers in Liberty Village and CityPlace, and industrial facilities along the Lake Shore. A surprising share of WAH violations are written not on highrise projects but on smaller residential renos and roofing jobs where workers assume "it's just a house." It is not — the regulation applies to every construction project, regardless of size.

For in-person training, our Toronto classroom is accessible by TTC and from any QEW, DVP, or 401 entry point. If your crew is dispersed across the city, on-site training is usually faster than gathering everyone at a fixed location. We have run sessions from Mimico to Malvern in the same week.

Where Toronto crews most commonly need WAH certification:

Bottom line for Toronto contractors: the WAH card is the cheapest piece of insurance on your site. Get your crew certified and stay focused on the work.
